ICW Group Selects Solutions Consulting Group (SCG) To Build An Insurance Surety Bond Processing Application Using Microsoft .NET
San Diego, CA, Monday, 5/3/04 - Solutions Consulting Group (SCG) San Diego's largest IT Services firm focusing on development and integration using Microsoft .NET, has been selected by Insurance Companies of the West (ICW) to deliver a .NET solution for Surety Bond Automation and Processing.
SCG recently completed a three month, detailed design with the Surety Division of ICW for the purpose of producing a Functional Specification that could be utilized throughout the development and deployment of the product lifecycle. The design efforts ensure that both teams could meet key business objectives while also achieving scope control. ICW wanted a company with a track record in successfully deploying complex Microsoft applications. The approach utilized by SCG emphasizes Project Management and Process around best practices for the Software Development Life Cycle.
Selected Microsoft .NET Architecture
SCG and ICW jointly selected Visual Studio .NET, the .NET Framework, Windows 2003 Server, Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004, Windows Terminal Services and SQL Server 2000 with Reporting Services to create its application for servicing and maintaining surety bond information. The application is a web-based application that behaves like a thick client application with minimal client latency issues, and a high degree of UI functionality. This is being achieved through extensive client scripting (javascript) and DHTML/CSS behaviors that leverage IE 6.0.
On the back end, BizTalk 2004 is utilized to handle the complex XML/XSL translations of SQL Server relational data into ASCII EBCDIC formatted files for integration into an IBM Mainframe backend. SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services will provide both on-demand and subscription-based reports. The choice to use C# will allow the application to leverage the advanced features of the .NET framework using reflection, inheritance and polymorphism, therefore creating a highly reusable and factored code base.

ICW began the evaluation for an IT services company with a strong application development practice, as opposed to seeking several commercial applications.
