Founded in 1978, DR Horton (NYSE:DHI) builds quality crafted, distinctive homes across the United States. Earning a record net income of $975 million in 2004, DR Horton has grown to over $3 billion in stockholders' equity and has maintained its position as the number one homebuilder in America by delivering more homes in the United States than any other homebuilder for the last three years. A Fortune 200 company, DR Horton operates 51 divisions in 21 states. Situation To maintain their market leadership position, DR Horton sought to improve its financial and sales forecasting abilities while leveraging their significant enterprise investment in Crystal Reports and JD Edwards. To achieve this goal, they required a solution that would bridge both software solutions and include security features to limit views of proprietary financial data by role and branch. In addition, they required a set of customized reports to track sales and traffic, data and trends, and locations of homes. Key Goals
SCG utilized the Construction Options Management Solution to help them achieve their goals. SCG began by creating a set of master reports in Crystal. For the advanced security requirements, each report was customized to enable row-level security when running, scheduling, or viewing a saved report. SCG also set up role-level access, which defined what type information was released at various levels within the organization. Additionally, SCG created customized macros for Excel spreadsheets which were published to Sharepoint Server and served to help DR Horton analyze and translate important data. Results SCG lowered the cost of ownership and time to market by delivering a solution that integrates tightly with existing accounting and reporting software to provide significant value to the enterprise. DR Horton now has a cost-effective set of financial reports that meet the security requirements of the company and streamlines sales and financial forecasting. Due to the success of the implementation, the company plans to roll out additional reports for distributed throughout the organization so that other divisions can enjoy the benefits of the solution. |
